HEPATITIS A Hepatitis A means inflammation of the liver. Hepatitis causes jaundice. Jaundice is the yellowish coloration of the eye and the skin. Hepatitis makes people feel extremely weak and ill. It can cause pain, diarrhea and vomiting. With age, the disease becomes more severe and dangerous. Vaccination is the most effective way to reduce hepatitis A incidence. Vaccination increases the body immunity against the disease. Therefore, the vaccine protects children from 1 year onward and adults for a long time against hepatitis A. Hepatitis A virus is easily transmitted by eating or drinking contaminated food or water. Neglecting hand washing after visiting the toilets or infected person can all result in spreading infection from one person to another. HEPATITIS B Hepatitis B is an infectious illness caused by hepatitis B virus (HBV) which infects the liver and causes an inflammation called hepatitis. Originally known as ‘serum hepatitis’, the disease has cause epidemics in parts of Asia and Africa.
